22 August 1994, maybe any of you remember this day, it is that historic day. The day mobile phone started in India. In about 30 years, this device has completely captured the hearts and minds of human beings and almost everything. Before its launch there was landline telephone and that too very few people were using it and more or less the work of the world was going on. As soon as this small device entered our life, it completely captured our lifestyle. After 2G, 3G, the real revolution came with the arrival of 4G.

There is absolutely no doubt about it. Multipurpose equipment has a big hand in accelerating the pace of development in the world. But this device created different types of side effects in different aspects of the society. It is not possible to discuss all of them in this article. Today, if we talk only about the world of crime, then this device has a very important contribution in this world. It is a different matter that this device also contributes in catching criminals. But to commit the crime before getting caught. Today it is not possible without this device.

First of all, economic crime will be discussed. The way economic crimes have increased after the introduction of this device. He has become a big headache for the society, police and government. In fact, it is not even possible to estimate the total loss due to these economic crimes. If we talk about the statistics, then NCRB and DOT (Department of Tele Communication), an organization of the Ministry of Home Affairs, tell that till April, 2021, 52974 cyber crimes were registered and in all these mobile and fake SIMs were taken from wrong IDs. Talking about economic crime, a TV channel even made a serial on it called “Jamtara”. In remote areas of Jharkhand where mobile and sim are easily available. There, thousands of educated youth embezzled thousands of crores by taking the help of internet through mobile phones. Jharkhand is not the only state where this incident has happened. There is hardly any such state left in the country. Where economic crimes are not happening daily with mobile and fake SIM. Just some time ago Gurgaon Police busted a similar huge racket in Mewat area and seized fake SIMs in thousands. The then team of Gurgaon Cyber Crime Police did a commendable job. The big question arises whether this type of operation will stop these crimes or not. Why economic crime? Civil crimes like kidnapping and extortion have also become easy through mobile. Gurgaon was the head of the cyber crime team at that time. Giving startling information from cybercrime sources, it was said that all these fake SIMs are brought from North East and remote areas of the country and after coming here these SIM cards and mobile phones are used in crimes. A huge gang of criminals is engaged in these activities who do the business of fake sims. He told that fake sims are taken in the name of the local residents from the North East states on the border of China by luring them in large quantities and they are activated once and then sold in China. More or less the same situation is with other border countries as well. This is a serious threat to the security of the country. Because recently the figures of SIM cards involved in crimes are shocking. In April, 2023, a case came to light in UP in which 11000 SIM cards were registered on top of one Aadhaar card. Similarly, Delhi Police Cyber Crime Branch caught fake call center, in which 22000 fake SIM cards were seized. DOT has blocked 55983 fake sim cards in Tamil Nadu in May, 2023. Whereas in May 2023, 34000 fake SIM cards were issued in different states – out of which 12822 from Andhra Pradesh, 4365 from West Bengal, 4338 from Delhi, 2322 from Assam, 2490 from Haryana.

Punjab Police blocked 1,80,000 fake SIM cards in May 2023 under a major drive against fake SIM cards. Out of which 500 were such SIM cards. In which the photograph was one, the name and address were different. Whereas in June 2023, Mumbai Cybercrime seized 30,000 such fake SIM cards. A few years ago in the Parliament too, in response to a question, the government accepted that about 5 crore SIM cards have been issued fraudulently in the country.

Talking about the problem, it is very serious and it has side effects in different ways. But what's the problem? Discussing this, only one thing comes out that the solution of this problem is definitely difficult. But not impossible. There are 5 companies providing mobile network in the country, out of which 2 are government and others are non-government. However, to control and keep an eye on the activities of all these, the government has formed an organization named TRAI. But in spite of its control, if fake SIMs are spreading like this in the country and not being able to stop the issue of fake SIM cards for further, it shows that somewhere the steps taken by this organization are not enough and the organization There are loopholes in the rules and regulations made by the Government. The most important thing is that the purchase of the SIM card should be issued only after verifying the identity of the buyer completely. The SIM card should be available only from the registered seller. It is often seen that registered sellers sell SIM cards in the markets by placing staff in small umbrellas and canopies or by making them sub-dealers to increase their sales. Which should be banned with immediate effect. A nationwide campaign should be launched to identify fake SIM cards. The day the police will start taking action against the concerned mobile company if a fake SIM card is found. On that day fake SIM cards will be banned. Otherwise the receipt of fake SIM cards will someday become a threat to national security as well.
